I love brown rice, but was forever burning it ever.single.time I tried cooking it on the stove. What I do now is to put it in the oven on 350 degrees for 1 hour. Cover semi-loosely with tinfoil. If its covered too tightly the water wont evaporate, too loosely and it will evaporate too fast. I have NEVER burned brown (or other long cooking rices) by cooking them in this way.
Replace the water (2c water to 1c rice) with broth, toss in some veggies and you have a great, easy side dish. If you double the recipe, I generally add about 15 min. to the cooking time.
